Elos Program

Two Cooperative Agreements were signed between USAID/Brazil and Pact for the implementation of the Elos Program. These Cooperative agreements are associated with Community REACH, USAID’s global program supporting the activities of local organizations in the field of HIV/AIDS, managed by Pact Washington. Focused on the South and Southeast regions of Brazil, the Elos Program’s general objective is to help reduce HIV/AIDS incidence and prevalence within the more vulnerable population groups: homosexuals and other men who have sex with men (MSM), sex workers (SW), transgender (TG), drug users (DU) and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV). Its objectives are aligned with local priorities and public policies for the control of the epidemic.

To reach its objectives, the Elos Program encompasses four main strategies:

1. Strengthening their technical and project management skills

2. Supporting prevention projects developed by Brazilian NGO

3. Fostering condom social marketing initiatives

4. Promoting behavior change by producing and airing communication campaigns.
